Stones

"I need to find a stone for Daddy to make him less sad"
Why do you think Daddy is sad?
"Because he doesn't have any stones."
Obvious really

Normal Voice

I was just trying to get her to put her pjs on. Stephanie was getting shouty and I just wanted to get bedtime moving along. I may have sounded just a bit exasperated but I wasn't very annoyed.

"Mummy I'm not going to listen to that voice. Use your normal voice."

Can you guess what I say to Alex when she is whining?

Too far to walk

We went to the zoo while Mum was over. I did take pictures of the animals as well but they aren't very good and if you really needed a picture of a zebra I'm sure you could find a thousand on flickr.

Lego

Alex built this with a bit of help from Dad. The thing fell apart a couple of times. This was the first time I've seen Alex deal with that calmly.

Can you guess what it is? It is a guitar holder. With wheels for when you want to move your guitar but don't want to have to carry it yourself.

Christmas Colours

Some people have a colour scheme for their Christmas decorations. Alex is one of them. This year she has painted all her Christmas cards with a limited palette. Yes, this year the colours of Christmas are navy and mud brown.

C64

Alex has turned into a C64 fan. That's the only explanation I have for her sitting in front of the computer this morning shouting "Peek Poke Peek Poke".

Christmas in Hilltown

We went to Hilltown for the week to see everyone before Christmas. Alex met lots of her relatives. And bonded with Tara. So much so that Tara started to hide as soon as she saw Alex coming. Apparently there is such a thing as too many hugs. It was great to see so many people even if Alex was suffering from a bad cold and generously decided to share her displeasure with everyone. Heigh ho. Perhaps she will be her normal cheery self the next time we visit.

There are more photos. Many more. Some of them are on the Photos of Alex blog and some are here in this album.

The Most Sincere Form of Flattery

Alex copies everything we do now. Though now that I look at the photographic evidence below I would like to point out that I generally don't eat my make up neat from the compact.

The Biggest Rice Cake Ever

Alex went to the local nursery today and stayed for three whole hours. I'm not sure how it went. She only napped for twenty five minutes and it sounded like they had a bit of bother getting her to even do that. I'm not surprised. She has never relished the idea of napping and when we first moved her naps from the bouncy chair to the cot the first few were very short. Hopefully she'll get better naps when she settles in a bit.

Jo, her key worker, said that she had played outside and was pointing to the toys she was interested in. That's quite exciting. When I arrived to collect her they were outside walking in the garden (Jo that is not Alex - that would be very, very exciting and Alex was munching a rice cake the size of her head. As soon as she saw me she burst into fits of tears. Oh dear. There was a big hug and a few more tears before she cheered up but at no stage did she let go of the rice cake.

Seven months

Alex is seven months old now. I took her to the baby clinic to get her weighed this afternoon. She now weighs nearly 18 pounds and 9 ounces which is pretty much as expected. Hurrah!

They did say that she should be able to sleep through the night by now and advised me to make sure she was awake when we put her down in her cot for the night. That way she will learn how to put herself to sleep so that when she wakes in the middle of the night she can nod off again without needing help. So this evening I found myself bizarrely trying to get her to wake up after her feed. Brushing her teeth (all two of them) did the job. Then there was a few minutes crying, a lot of twisting round in the cot and finally she slept. She is now sleeping, with her head to one side (thankfully, I hate the face down sleeping position!) facing outwards. She usually faces the other way so this is a rare chance to see her face as she sleeps. Very, very cute. Of course :-)

The health visitor gave us a Bookstart bag. Free books!

She has started to try to cruise round the furniture. Not entirely successfully so far which has lead to a few bumps but nothing too dramatic thankfully.

Swimmers

We took Alex to Parkside, the big swimming pool at the bottom of Mill Rd, a few weeks ago. She is normally really good in the bath and loves to splash but I was a bit worried that the size of the place and the loud echoey swimming pool acoustics would scare her. It was no bother to her at all. She loved the pool and stared all around trying to see everything.

Santa

Alex met Santa at the FSID Christmas party. I think Santa (Anna's brother roped in to help) was even more startled than Alex.

Getting to sitting

This morning, for the very first time, Alex managed to get from lying down to sitting up all on her own. Of course it could take weeks before she ever does it again. Or perhaps never. After all she spent a day rolling from her tummy to her back and then _never_ did it again. But if she can get from her tummy to sitting up and she can get from sitting up to pulling herself up to standing then the cot won't be the safe place any more!

Anyway, Hurrah!
